Tea became popular amongst the trade routes in Southern Russia along the China border during the 1700's - The chests of tea would travel via camel from China to Russia and would pick up the aroma of campfires along the way. 11,000 miles and 16 months later, the time it took to reach its destination in Russia, the tea had changed dramatically, hence the name Russian Caravan Tea. The Smokey flavor of this tea made it Russia's second most popular drink next to Vodka.
